Kids and Adults, You Can Audition for Oakley Musical
Oakley Valley Arts Council plans auditions for its spring production, “Dear Edwina,” from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 5 and from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 7 at Howells Opera House in Oakley.

Children and adults may audition; ages 7-14 should be accompanied by parents. Musical audition will include listening to and sight reading a song from the show. Music is available before auditions from director Kent Evensen, at 677-2787.

“Dear Edwina” will be performed March 9-10, 12, 15-17, 19 and 22-24 at Howells Opera House.

In this musical by Zina Goldrich and Marcy Heisler, 13-year-old Edwina Spoonapple has talented siblings and thinks that she isn’t special. Yet Edwina’s talents include leadership, singing and advising, and she combines them by directing musicals out of her garage. Their topic is letters written to her by neighborhood kids who need advice; she gives advice through songs and dances that she orchestrates with her friends.

One of the show’s main themes is Edwina’s desire to be in the Advice-a-palooza festival, to prove that she is as talented as her siblings.
