2014-15 SEASON  CASTING AUDITIONS

Do you want the opportunity to travel around the country performing for thousands of people? The Utah Ballroom Dance Company is casting for their new season and providing that opportunity. Work with a award-winning company and receive private training while you tour and perform in two professional level shows.

 

Dancers of all levels and from across the country are encouraged to audition!

 

Company Description:

The Utah Ballroom Dance Company (UBDC) was founded in 2010 in St. George, UT.  Due to its growing success and bookings it no longer resides in Utah but is a touring professional company. Rehearsals for the company members are held in Corvallis, OR during the month of December. With a repertoire of 5 different shows and over a hundred shows each season. The UBDC is growing fast and looking for new talent. This season the company's tour will include stops in: NY, PA, OH, TN, OR, ID, WA, CA, UT, NV, AZ.

 

Show Descriptions:

"Dancing with YOUR Stars"-

        Similar to a popular TV show, this production partners up 6  local "Stars" with our dancers to learn a ballroom dance routine.  We costume the stars, add in some video highlights and a hilarious local judging panel and put on a show that communities absolutely love. The best part is the community gets to vote for who will win and take home the coveted mirror ball trophy.

 

"Hollywood: A Ballroom Dancing Tribute to the Silver Screen"-

       Hollywood is a theatrical sensation! Hollywood’s favorite characters and stories are brought to life with elegant costumes, breathtaking lifts, and beautiful ballroom dancing. Audiences are swept away watching stars like Fred Astarie, Ginger Rodgers, Gene Kelly, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe and more, dancing to the music from the movies that made them famous.

 

Typical Work Week:

Preparation days:

~ Preparing stars and rehearsal (1-2 hours)

~ Individual practice and technique (1.5 hour)

~ Cast Rehearsal (1.5 hours)

~ Remainder of day is typically open to other activities, free time, and exercise

 

Show Days:

~Dress rehearsal (1.5 hours)

~Setup for show (2 hours)

~Performance (1.5 hours)

~Strike (1 hour)

 

Compensation:

~6 month contract (December 1st- May 31st) [Holidays in December off]

~Housing throughout contract is provided

~Food throughout contract is provided

~Travel throughout contract is provided, including to rehearsals in Oregon

~Salary (equivalent to 10-15 hours of work at $15-20 an hour or varies DOE)

 

Audition Requirements:

1. Record four (4) routines or demonstrations of your dancing:

      a. Each routine should be approx. 90-seconds long

      b. Select two dances from one style below and two dances from a second style

                   i. American Rhythm (Cha Cha, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Bolero, Mambo)

                   ii. American Smooth (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz)

                   iii. International Latin (Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive)

                   iv. International Standard (Foxtrot, Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, Viennese Waltz)

            (If no previous ballroom dance experience: please submit videos demonstrating your level of experience in

             ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, contemporary, modern, etc.)

      c. Upload your videos to YouTube or Vimeo

                   i. You may set the privacy of the videos to unlisted if you do not wish to have them public and search-able

                   ii. Take note of the links to your videos as you will submit them in your on-line audition form

Production company in Williamsburg, VA and we’ll be in Boise, ID the first week of September for a video shoot.  Looking to cast an actor in a doctor role. The video we’re producing is a short 2-3 minutes patient testimonial that will be used on a website, and we’re looking for someone to play a doctor having a conversation with a patient and potentially his parent. We would be looking for the following:

 
   A male that looks to be between the ages 55-65

·         Caucasian

·         Between 5’8” and 5’10” and average build

·         There will be no lines to learn as the footage will just be b-roll for the video, but will need him to interact with the a person or two as though they’re having a conversation

·         Photos will also be taken to accompany the video on the website

·         The shoot would take place on Wednesday, September 3rd and we would need to the person for about a 2 hour block. Exact time is TBD

 Rachel Crabbe: Mid 20s. Great physical actor with strong comic instincts and a great sense of playfulness. At ease inhabiting men's clothing (Ringo Starr). Knows what she wants and how to get it. From London. Mezzo soprano (low note A below middle C, high note D mixed). Must sing well.

 Harry Dangle: Late 50s-Early-Mid 60s. Crooked Solicitor (Lawyer) From Rottingdean looking to sound higher brow then he really is. Partner in a shady law firm. Lyric baritone (high note = high G).

 Alan Dangle: Harry's son. 20s-30s. Actor. In love with Pauline. Dramatic, Dramatic ACTOR. Baritone or lyric baritone (high note = C or F)

 Lloyd Boateng: London/Jamaican Late 40s to 50s. Friend to Clench. Charismatic, working class with an air of charm. Loyal. Warm.

 Charlie "The Duck" Clench: 50s. Pantalone character and as such controls the money in the play. Father to Pauline. Runs a scrap metal company over which he lives. Not used to being disobeyed.

 Pauline Clench: Charlie's daughter. (Clarice character or inamorata in Commedia). Was engaged to Roscoe who died but now engaged and in love with Alan Dangle. As one of the lovers, she tends to be a bit "Over-Dramatic". Full of life. It's good when it's good and bad when it's bad! Mezzo soprano (low note A below middle C, high note D mixed). Must sing well.

 Dolly: 30s-40s. Brassy. A match for Francis. Is the bookkeeper, but keeps the world spinning in the right direction. Mezzo soprano (low note A below middle C, high note D mixed). Must sing well.

Gareth: Support waiter. Younger than Alfie but not a YOUNG man. 40s would be ideal

Alfie: Younger but made-up to look extremely OLD. GREAT physical comedian. No Fear. Must be able, willing and ready to do several pratfalls and engage in extremely difficult, choreographed physical comedy.

Would-be millionaires will be lining up at the Valley Fair Mall on Friday, for a chance to audition for the game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire."

The syndicated game show will be holding auditions Friday Aug. 1st at the Megaplex Theatres at Valley Fair, 3620 S. 2400 West, West Valley City.

Sessions run from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., and again from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (The 7 p.m. session is for prospective contestants for the show’s upcoming "Movie Week.")

Those auditioning must be 18 or older, and a legal U.S. resident — and bring ID to prove both.

There’s no advance sign-up — just get in line, first come, first served. (No one will be admitted in line before 6 a.m.)
