Newsies the musical is based on the 1992 film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and directed by choreographer Kenny Ortega. The Disney film starred Christian Bale, David Moscow, Bill Pullman, Robert Duvall and Ann-MargretIt and is based on the New York City Newsboys Strike of 1899.The musical is set in New York City during the 1890s. In the story the “Newsies” are the homeless kids who hustle newspapers to make ends meet. The “newsies” are all boys that live in boys homes.

Disney’s Newsies is the Winner of the 2012 Tony Awards® for Best Score and Best Choreography, NEWSIES combines explosive music, high-energy dance and an inspiring New York success story to create a musical you don’t want to miss.

THIS ROLE WILL REQUIRE A LARGE RANGE OF EMOTIONAL CONTENT, DEALING WITH SOMEONES REHABILITATION AS A PERSON. THIS ROLE WILL SEE THE CHARACTER BE THE POSITIVE FORCE IN A STRANGERS LIFE, AS THEIR CONNECTION BECOMES STRONGER THROUGHOUT THE DURATION OF THE STORY. 

THIS WILL BE SHOT AT LOCATIONS WITHIN SALT LAKE CITY, WE WILL BE FILMING IN HIGH RESOLUTION, AND WE PLAN ON NO MORE THAN A 20DAY SHOOTING SCHEDULE.

Singers & Singer/Dancers Requirements:

• Appointments are not necessary.
• All candidates must be at least 16 years old by April 1, 2014. For those under 18, please have an accompanying parent or legal guardian to assist with paperwork.
• All candidates should provide one (1) current non – returnable headshot and one (1) performance resume.
• All candidates must prepare to sing two contrasting songs (one (1) up-tempo & one (1) ballad) in any style. Each song should not exceed 1-minute in length. Provide legible sheet music in the appropriate key as an accompanist will be provided. Accompaniment on CD or iPod is also allowed however, music with the original artist performing main vocals, or on a cassette tape, will not be accepted.
• All candidates must be able to move well. Some candidates may be asked to attend a call back the same day at which time a dance combination will be taught. Bring appropriate dance attire, please no costumes.
• Callbacks for The Rock Show vocalists will be held on Saturday, February 8.

Contract Dates and Schedule:

Rehearsal and performance dates may vary depending on the position and the specific production. Rehearsals may begin as early as late March. Rehearsals are held weekdays, Monday thru Friday, in the late afternoon / evening. If needed, one Saturday morning / afternoon rehearsal may be scheduled. Shows open Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Throughout June, July, August and weekends in September all shows will perform 6 days per week, which include Sunday.
