INT: LEMURIAN CELL: MORNING

Dr. Allen is sleeping uncomfortably on the floor. There is a quiet shuffling and a light exposes his face. He blinks and covers his eyes, squinting at the 3 figures that stand before him. YOL GORRO, PHYLUS and MANAN, they are tall and shrouded in colorful blue/green robes and hoods. The first speaks, and his/her voice is raspy and somewhat serpentlike. Manan, is somewhat less graceful than the other two. In fact, there is a feral quality. Reptilian almost, about him. Their gender is somewhat ambiguous.

YOL GORRO

Please rise. We are here to take you from this place.

PHYLUS

Unfortunately, our compatriots are somewhat harsh in their attention to duty.

MANAN

We needn’t speak to the human.

YOL GORRO

Indeed, we do. Your people brought him here rather than to the main chamber where he could be welcomed.

MANAN

That is because OUR people need to be more aware of their safety.

PHYLUS

I am known as Phylus. This is Yol Gorro and he is Manan. We are already aware that you are called "Doctor Allen".

There is a tense silence between the three as Dr. Allen stands warily.

DR. JOHN ALLEN

No offense, but are you taking me somewhere to be fed to the underground lake monster or are you freeing me?

There is another pause while the 3 figures look at each other. Perhaps communicating without Dr. Allen’s participation. Finally one speaks.

YOL GORRO

You may leave us Manan. I have this one elderly human under control. He is no threat.

MANAN

For now. But what happens when others come looking for him? We should have just killed him and left his body on the surface. Then the risk of discovery would be non existent.

YOL GORRO

Manan. You overstep yourself. I believe you have duties to be attended at the perimeter? Manan’s hood turns towards Dr. Allen, as if he is glaring.

MANAN

If your people come for you, it will be bad for them. Pray that no one misses you. Yol Gorro, you will be brought to regret this kindness. Discovery is not some game where the risk is only pretend. On that ominous note, Manan stalks off leaving the other two with Dr. Allen.

YOL GORRO

I must apologize for Manan. His idea of what constitutes a threat to our safety is rather ..overzealous at times.

PHYLUS

His concern is justified. His methods, however, are not what we prefer.

YOL GORRO

Please join us. We can not free you to return to your life on the surface, however, we can make your time here most pleasant. There is much beauty here. Much to learn. I think one such as yourself will be happy.

He gestures for Dr. Allen to join them, and hesitantly he does.

DR. JOHN ALLEN

So who are you? What are you that you speak of me as a "human" and know my name? And why bring me here from the surface at all? You talk as though I’ll be here a long time. Yol Gorro’s final line is delivered as they leave the cel and begin down the dimly lit tunnel.

YOL GORRO

Those are questions best answered after we show you our home. Then your understanding will be greater.
