Prison Break Hospital Drama

Short Film

Filming: August 28th and 29th

Synopsis:

Officers Jake Adams and Chad Reynolds are transporting Wade Hawkes, a convicted killer, to a maximum secure facility. Enroute Hawkes has a heart attack and the officers get him to the nearest hospital for treatment. Under the care of Alyssa, Hawkes gets the treatment he truly deserves.

CHARACTERS:

Special Agent Burton Young: 30-40’s, male, any ethnicity. He is the FBI agent assigned to take care of Wade Hawkes, a convicted killer. He is new to the assignment and has not been kept in the loop like he should be.

Brady: 20-50’s, male, built and tall, any ethnicity. He is an orderly at the hospital.

Synopsis:

In the fall of 1883 a rancher’s wife named Maggie Flynn buries her husband, leaving her with two fatherless children and an uncertain future. Jacob, the quiet, yet stoic lead ranch hand, starts a friendship with Maggie to help fill the void left by her loss. Life on the ranch becomes complicated for Maggie when Eli Welch, a neighboring rancher and unscrupulous businessman, attempts to pressure her into selling the ranch for less than its value. Jacob decides to take matters into his own hands.

CHARACTERS:

Jacob: Mid 30’s-late 40’s male. Tall and somewhat in shape, he’s the lead ranch hand on a large late-1800’s ranch. Has a quiet, gentle quality about him, but also has a smoldering tendency towards violence if he, or those he loves, are pushed too far.

Eli Welch: 50’s-mid 60’s male. Graying hair and bearded. Not physically domineering, but intimidating in his wealth, power, body language, and the way he speaks to others. Has a disposition which can transform from pleasant and engaging to downright deadly in a matter of seconds.

Sheriff: Mid 30’s-40’s male. A fair-minded lawman who has his constituent’s best interest at heart. He approaches his job with an open mind and careful observance.

Preacher: Early 40’s-50’s male. A country preacher who shows great sympathy for the family of the man he lays to rest.

Eli Welch’s Bodyguard (non-speaking roll): Mid-20’s-30’s. Tall and built. Quick with a gun and imposing in how he handles one.

Synopsis:

Eliza McFarland dreams of being an actress on the stage and screen. It's a passion she shares with her childhood friend, Sam, who has never given up on his dream that he and Eliza will someday be together. Eliza's husband, James, thinks her place is in the home taking care of him and their two small children instead of chasing after childish things. Eliza is a strong woman, but living in a small town during the 1920's, that strength may not be enough to hold on to her family and live the life she desperately wants to see come to past.

CHARACTERS:

James McFarland: Lead 30's A tightwad Banker. He has to be in control of everyone and everything. Thinks a woman’s role should be in the home. He loves his family but is afraid of losing it. Sam was his best friend.

Audition Sides: Pages 1-4, 7-8, 15-16

Sam Witfield: Lead 30's A dashing heartthrob with a smile that melts your heart. He is best friend to Eliza. A threat to James. He is free spirited and wants to help Eliza gain her freedom. He is the spur in Eliza’s relationship. He always has that certain secret he hides underneath his smooth cover.

Janice: Supporting 50's, two scenes. A stern stubborn mule with a big heart. She took the job as a play director when her husband kept her from being on the stage. She hates the way James treats Eliza. She covers her weaknesses with a strong protective front. But deep down inside she is tender as they come.
