Synopsis: In 1827, Joseph Smith, Jr. was only 21 years old, when he claimed to have received a prophetic calling to translate ancient scriptures that would soon be published as The Book of Mormon. Less than three years later, he founded The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that today has grown to be the 4th largest religion in the United States. The film follows Joseph’s early adult years and accurately portrays the events that lead up to the publishing of The Book of Mormon and the founding of a new world religion. The film also details Joseph’s personal life and his desire to find forgiveness, acceptance and salvation from God.

Shooting locations: East Coast. Travel and accommodations provided.

Shooting period: September/November 2009

Pay Range: Pay depending on role and experience. Pay under ultra-low budget SAG Agreement.

Some additional background: Joseph the Prophet is an independent feature film production and will probably be produced under the ultra-low budget SAG agreement. It follows Christian Vuissa’s films The Errand of Angels and One Good Man (formerly titled Father in Israel), which will be theatrically released later this year. Joseph the Prophet is also scheduled for a theatrical release in spring 2010 and will give actors lots of exposure in Utah and surrounding states.

FATHER SMITH 50s. Caucasian. Joseph’s father. Burdened by setbacks and age. Honest. Hard-working.

MARTIN HARRIS Mid 40s. Caucasian. Wealthy farmer. Respected in the community. Religiously inclined.

LUCY MACK SMITH Early 50s. Caucasian. Joseph’s mother. Strong willed. Devoted Christian. Outspoken
