The Casper College Department of Theatre and Dance will hold auditions for its summer musical “Cabaret” this weekend.

“Cabaret” features music by John Kander with lyrics by Fred Ebb and originally appeared on Broadway in 1966. The musical garnered 11 Tony nominations and scored wins for eight of those including best musical and best original score. The musical has been revived on Broadway two more times, in 1987 and 1998.

According to Richard Burk, director, the audition is open to anyone 17 and older. There are a number of older adult roles and that many roles do not include intensive dancing.

“We hope to see community members audition and are asking those auditioning to prepare a musical theatre song, verse and refrain only, that reflects style and/or period of the show, but not a song from ‘Cabaret,’” said Burk in a press relesase. The song must be memorized and in character. Those interested in auditioning for the role of Sally or any of the Kit Kat Klub performers will also be required to perform a dance routine. Wear comfortable clothes to dance in and also bring sheet music in a three ring binder for the piano accompanist.

Callbacks will be 6 to 9 p.m. Monday. Rehearsals will begin June 3 with performances in July.
