Sinful Nature Synopsis and Characters: 

Sinful Nature is a Dark Comedy Drama that details the lives of four people caught up in a religious prosperity cult. Struggling to find meaning and purpose, two men and two women are set out into the sinful heathen world to recruit new cult members, for the highly charismatic and seductive cult lead Pastor Blake Sullivan. Determined to find validation in the world through approval and acceptance the young cult members face their own demons by their naïve participation in the manipulation of other lost souls seeking love, warmth and understanding, in the fragmented culture. Lead by team leader Jessica, the other team members Aaron, Alex, and Josh seek out attractive candidates who seem to be in need of salvation, other lonely and isolated people in search for genuine kindness in a cruel world. Eventually the characters on the team must either transform their beliefs about life, love, and individuality or remain trapped in the bizarre twisted flock of fake spirituality.

Roles

Pastor Blake Sullivan: Age Range 35-45

Pastor Blake Sullivan is a con man, a sociopath, and an all around creepy bastard. He is a misogynist, a womanizer, a liar, a manipulator of lonely hearts and minds, and deliberate thief of people’s dreams and ambitions. As much of a despicable villain that he is, Pastor Blake is a sex and drug addict and on the run from a Russian Mafia family. Assuming a false identity, he is on his own countdown to self distracting and is seeking to swindle as much cash and assets out from under the nose of his unsuspecting followers before either they find him out or the Russian mob track him down. Time is running out for Pastor Blake and eventually starts putting real pressure on Jessica to run off with him and his psychotic wife to start a new cult elsewhere. He unleashes an devastating barrage of mind control and guilt ridden fear tactics on Jessica, so she will do his bidding. With no low too low to stoop to, Pastor Blake removes all the stops to get what he wants and to escape justice, both actual and universal.

Aaron: Age Range 25-35

Aaron is a young man seeking to process the traumas of his troubled life. His father was a police officer who was killed by his mother, in a tragic murder suicide, when she discovered he was he was a cross dressing drag queen who was secretly living a double life as a night club performer. Aaron shy, confused, and introverted seeking resolution about his own insecurities looks to understand the father who he thought he knew, he turns to Pastor Blake Sullivan and his cult in a desperate attempt to find a sense of belonging. Pastor Blake convinces Aaron to join his Community Outreach Team in order to give back and find some direction. Aaron finds love and acceptance in Pastors motley crew of prosperity obsessed followers. Aaron is forced to grow when he realizes that his new family and friends are more screwed up than he is and he finds the answers he is seeking when he comes to understand that he is much happier in life when he surrounds himself by other thoughtful caring people instead of remaining a loner.

Jessica: Age Range 25-35

Jessica is Pastor’s lead agent in his Community Outreach Team. Jessica is a young beautiful angry young woman. She is dark, edgy, and mysterious. She comes from a broken home where her mother left early in her child hood. Jessica’s alcoholic father clings to his hard drinking habits, lost and obsessed with his conspiracy throes about the Illuminati, the Alien Agenda, and the Federal Reserve. Jessica is in on the scam with pastor sucked in against her will. Pastor Blake found her living on the streets and brought her up to be his little protégé. With her fowl mouth and emotional outburst she dose not fit the mold of your average religious person. But she is the motivator in the team and makes the wheels turn in recruiting, though she obviously is not cut from the same cloth as the others in the church. Jessica is slowly breaking free from the manipulative and twisted control that Pastor Blake has on her. She literally has a gun to her head to do the Pastors bidding. She doesn’t want to be the angry bitter person she is, and she sees what she has to do to change. She is just looking for the right opportunity to get out.

Josh: Age Range 25-35

Josh is a sharp, assertive, persistent member of the team, He is very preachy and is usually the strong arm of the group. He is always quick to judge others, but has a difficult time finding any fault in himself. Josh is just seeking to belong, being born an orphan growing up in foster care, Josh is just looking for a family to love and one to love him back. Josh is in constant odds with Alex. Josh , being indoctrinated with misogynist views on sex and women is constantly being challenged by Alex, whom eventually he falls in love with, and must search is heart for what he truly wants, what he truly deserves in life, but he must take a long hard look at himself if he is going to break free from the beliefs that keep him cut off and bound to a life that is a lie.

Alex: Age Range 25-35

She is a cheerful and pretty girl, always upbeat and positive being raised in the church all her life. Alex, having her own skeletons in the closet uses the church as a crutch to deal with her addiction to boys and her need to be validated by them. Alex is constantly getting in Josh’s face, she can’t help but constantly correct his stubborn and pig headed ways. Mostly the two are good friends who develop a strong affection for one anther but she, like Josh cannot see past the veil of her religious ideologies about premarital sex and other liberal points of view. It is Alex before Josh who initiates the way away from the strong overbearing ideals of the cult and beings to steer her life back towards a more balanced view of life and love.

Daren: Age Range 25-35

Daren is rebel and an artist; he is Jessica’s catalyst for change and rebellion from the conformity and fakeness in her life. Daren is a musician who plays regularly at a bar that the Pastor’s community outreach cult brainwashing crew go to recruit weary and lonely patrons. Posing as young cool hipsters, the crew emulates inauthentically what Daren is naturally, a bright shining star of a personality who is genuine and sincere. Daren performs his music and makes love to the audience who frequent the club from the stage. He is always lifting people’s spirits and making friends everywhere he turns. Inescapably Darren and Jessica meet, but Jessica, with all her beauty and sway can’t seem to cast a spell over Darren. She becomes hell bent on getting her hooks into him, what she really wants is to be close to him and understand the warmth and sincerity that radiates from his personality. Ultimately Daren is a wild child, who cannot be tamed or captured. Still Jessica is determined to get under Darren’s skin, at all cost, setting herself up for disappointment catastrophic let down.

Natasha Sullivan: Age Range 30-40

Natasha Sullivan is the Pastor’s would be wife and partner in crime, and the venom behind the fangs the pastor wields. She is the devil incarnate and is the true mastermind behind the Pastor’s malevolent treachery. She like Blake is on the run from the Russian Mob when her and Blake murdered her husband Victor, a Russian mobster, so they could be together. Natasha is obsessed and in love with Jessica as her little love toy. She is constantly seeking to posses Jessica and keep her within arms reach. Always remaining calm and elegant she sets the wheels in motion for her and Blake’s keep on the run from the justice that is hunting them down.

Stanley: Age range 45-65

Stanley is Jessica’s eccentric alcoholic father. He is retired Marine who has seen a thing or two. He is trapped in a self made prison of nostalgia and bitter regret. He is constantly raving about the Illuminati, and the Alien Agenda, as well as politics and the corruption that plagues society. He is in constant need of care and relies on regular visits from his daughter who periodically doses his laundry and cleans up after him. He offers wisdom and perspective for Jessica when she needs it most and by natural selection must choose from a life of addiction vs. starting his life a new.
